According to Billy's management, this is what he recently told them about the stickers: He was getting pretty good at swatting flies on his piano with his hand, so someone (not sure if it was Billy) made a "Kill Count" sticker like WWII pilots would put on their airplane after they shot down an enemy plane. He stuck it on the top of the piano as a joke. Well, no one removed the sticker after the show, so a second was added, then a third, etc, each time Billy "shot down" a fly, until there were 28 in all. At this point, the piano had to be painted flat black on top for the making of the video "Billy Joel Live From Long Island" (to reduce the glare). But instead of removing the stickers, they were painted around, forever framing Billy's tally at 28.
